Turn What You Love Into Your Business

The importance of doing what you love & loving what you do...

Find something you love & make it your business!

The world is dominated by the 9-5 grind. It’s the ‘norm’ and I know from my experience that yearning for something more can be looked upon as fairytale dreams that won’t come true. But, things are starting to change. More people are dreaming of breaking free from the monotony and finding another way to live more freely. A more fulfilling way, a more spacious way, a way to pursue our passions and not feel trapped by the conventional path.

So, where do we start? When you want to be a business owner, it can be easy to look for things to do that others have done and business models that we have witnessed become a success. It is natural to look for the best business ideas based on what could make the most money or be the quickest and easiest to set up. I think this is the wrong starting point because I have done it that way.

I started a shop because I knew that I could run one and make it a success. I saw other people in the industry do really well, my husband was a greengrocer and was already doing the job and so I knew that we could do it for ourselves. I went after the business model and the success rather than doing something that we loved. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret it, we built something special and that was our path but knowing what I know now, I would have started a business in a different way, one that better aligned with my passions and one that meant I was doing something that I loved.

As incredible and rewarding as running a business can be, it is bloody hard work. It is all-consuming, you never really switch off and with the freedom of being your own boss, comes the need to make big sacrifices. When you do not love what you do or when you are doing it for just financial gain, it is so much harder to keep going when things get tough. When you do it because you really love what you do, the rest becomes a wonderful bonus and nothing is going to stop you from reaching your goals.

In business you have to show up consistently, you have to work hard, you have to resist comparing yourself to others and stay focused on your goals, you need commitment and patience, you need to take risks and make mistakes and all these things are a million times harder when you don’t love what you do and a million times easier when you do.

I now own two companies that I am absolutely and totally obsessed with - a travel agency and a coaching business. These have been a complete game-changer for me. Nothing feels like work. It is a joy to work on them and I’m so excited and enthusiastic to grow businesses that I love and to do something every day that I enjoy. I think about them every day and come up with ideas and ways to stay creative, I want to improve and learn and grow and that all comes easy because I love what I do.

So, again where do you start? Start with a list of things you love/love to do because that is where you will find your dream business. Everything else is just the small details. The most important thing is that you turn what you love into your business.

If you need any help, I’m at your service xx
